Youth Exchange in Cyprus: Bridging Cultures and Preventing Crime

The Youth Exchange (YE) program in Paralimni, Cyprus, brought together 28 youths and 7 leaders from eight European countries—Cyprus, North Macedonia, Spain, Serbia, Romania, Latvia, and Lithuania—for a dynamic experiential learning experience rooted in non-formal education (NFL). The program included a range of activities such as role plays, simulations, reflective sessions, and presentations, as well as cultural activities like an intercultural evening, all designed to foster understanding and collaboration across cultures.

The core theme of the program was crime prevention, with expert guests presenting insights on crime statistics, crime prevention strategies, and the policies different communities, NGOs, and youth workers employed on this topic. By sharing and discussing real-time data, policies, and perspectives, participants were able to recognize commonalities across cultures, bridge differences, and enhance intercultural dialogue. Youths also engaged in collaborative sessions to create final partnership products, including a booklet, video, keyrings, and page finders.
